RCMP ‘Aboriginal Community Constables’

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have announced a new ‘Aboriginal Community Constable’ program that will see ACCs deployed in Manitoba, Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.   The pilot program is an effort by the RCMP to improve their poor relations with Indigenous peoples across the country, which includes scores of police killings, assaults, and sieges of Indigenous communities since its inception.  The following press releases are from the RCMP. What more could be said about the 1990 ‘Oka Crisis’ thirty years after the fact? Quite a bit apparently, at least if you were one of the Queen’s henchmen. Harry Swain was a long-time government bureaucrat with the Department of Indian Affairs, and from 1987 to 1992 was deputy minister of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC, the current version of DIA). While there are many accounts of that summer’s standoff, most have been written by journalists. The FBI’s Domestic Counter-Insurgency Campaign (1960s-70s)

The FBI’s infamous Counter-Intelligence Program (COINTEL-PRO) should serve as a chilling reminder of the length to which our enemy will go to crush our resistance. This is especially true since veterans of this time are still with us, & many remain in prison to this day as a result (inc. Leonard Peltier, Mumia Abu-Jamal, etc.).
Many are also dead, killed by the FBI, police, & paramilitaries during the 1960’s & 70’s. Our failure to learn from this time would not only leave us vulnerable to the same tactics, it would be a dishonor to the sacrifices made by the previous generation. Read the rest of this entry

Introduction

Insurgency is an organized revolt against a government or foreign occupation force. It is a mass movement arising from the civilian or Indigenous populations as a whole. Although insurgencies involve the organization of combat forces (usually guerrillas), these forces would be quickly isolated & destroyed without support from the population.
