Sarnia: First Nation children heavily contaminated with banned chemicals

Mothers and children of a First Nations tribe living in one of Canada’s most industrialized regions are highly exposed to estrogen-blocking chemicals, according to a new study.
The research is the first to confirm the Aamjiwnaang community’s fears of elevated exposure to pollutants, and it may help shed some light on why the tribe has an unusually low percentage of baby boys. Read the rest of this entry
First Nations man faces $16K bill for ‘Idle No More’ blockade on CN Railway

Aamjiwnaang First Nation activist Ron Plain has been ordered to pay more than $16,000 to CN Rail for his role in a 13-day blockade that was part of the Idle No More movement.
On Wednesday in Ontario Superior Court, Justice Bruce G. Thomas ordered Plain to pay $16,584.87 to CN to cover the company’s legal costs. Read the rest of this entry
Sarnia railway clear after judge orders end to native blockade

A nearly two-week long blockade of a railway line in Sarnia, Ont., was being dismantled Wednesday night just hours after an Ontario judge ruled that it must come down.

SARNIA, Ont. — The mayor of Sarnia says city police do not plan to shut down a CN Rail blockade by First Nations activists as long as no one is hurt in the protest.
