US Codename for Osama Target: Geronimo

By now the world knows that Osama bin Laden, after more than ten years, has been assassinated by US special operations forces in Abbottabad, Pakistan.  And while members of SEAL Team Six ‘heroically’ went room to room executing bin Laden, his wife, and other family members, they used a codename designated for bin Laden: ‘Geronimo’.  As Steven T. Newcomb’s column in Indian Country Today explains, this is but one example of the US obsession with using ‘Indian fighting’ metaphors in any counter-insurgency campaign it engages in.
