B.C. Conservation Service conducts joint investigation involving RCMP, Environment Canada and Fisheries

The B.C. Conservation Service executed search warrants at the Mount Polley mine and the Vancouver offices of its owner Imperial Metals Tuesday night, in relation to the spill of 25 million cubic metres of waste from the mine’s tailings pond last August.

Insp. Chris Doyle with the conservation service said the search warrants were issued to support a joint investigation by the B.C. Conservation Service, the RCMP, Environment Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Read the rest of this entry

Talking with a Target: Vancouver Police Department’s “Guns-Drawn” Graffiti Raid Draws Fire

On June 3rd, Vancouver Police staged a “guns-drawn” raid against a house of known indigenous and anarchist opponents to the energy policies of the central government and its corporate sponsors.

The ostensible reason for the raid was given as the search for graffiti materials believed to be tied to an ongoing “no pipelines” tagging campaign. Warrior Publications publisher, Gord Hill was one of those arrested and released.

A police raid of an east Vancouver home earlier this week as part of an investigation of anti-pipeline graffiti is being criticized as disproportionate to the alleged crime.
Five people were arrested during the raid, but all were released and no charges have been laid, Vancouver police Const. Brian Montague said Friday.
“I expect that charges will be recommended at some point down the road,” Montague said. “It is linked to an investigation related to the ‘no-pipelines’ tagging we’ve seen around town.”
The raid, however, drew criticism in a blog post on Warrior Publications by author identified only as “Zig Zag.” Read the rest of this entry
