Ten tiny houses are about to go head-to-head with a giant proposed oil pipeline. In what some area already dubbing the next ‘Standing Rock’, Kanahus Manuel, an activist of the Secwepemc Nation is spearheading a team of builders and volunteers from all over North America to construct tiny homes with the aim of halting the expansion of the Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline which would run through 518 kilometres of Secwepemc Territory. Canadian Press, July 19, 2017Kinder Morgan Canada says it is still on track to start construction of the Trans Mountain expansion project in September as it released its first quarterly results since going public in May.

Kinder Morgan’s schedule for the $7.4-billion Trans Mountain oil pipeline expansion shows construction work is to start as early as Sept. 1.

Province’s environmental approval challenged

The Squamish Nation has launched another lawsuit in an effort to stop Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline, this time targeting the provincial government.
The petition filed in B.C. Supreme Court on April 20 asks for a judicial review of the province’s decision to grant the pipeline an environmental certificate, alleging the province failed in its constitutional duty to consult with the First Nation.
